Are you interested in learning more about how our government works while making new friends from all over Ohio? Please consider attending Buckeye Boys/Girls State.
These programs provide a practical exercise in the operation of a democratic government as the students govern a fictitious 51st state. They will run for election and will be appointed to serve in offices within the Legislative Branch and in Cabinet/Administrative Departments at the State, County, and Local Government levels. All Buckeye Boys State Delegates will be required to attend a local orientation meeting in the spring of 2026.
Applications and other information will be available through the school counseling office at Perry High School. Applicants will be interviewed, and the final selection will be made by the American Legion.

Applications are now available in the school counseling office for the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Seminar (HOBY). Each spring, 10,000 high school sophomores from across the country join one of HOBY's 70 State Leadership Seminars to recognize their leadership talents and apply them to become effective, ethical leaders in their homes, schools, workplaces, and communities. This 2 to 3-day seminar weekend is filled with interactive activities and workshops that allow students to discover their personal leadership strengths. After understanding leadership from three different perspectives (personal leadership, group leadership, and leadership for society), students then learn to cultivate their skills to lead others and make a positive impact in their community.
This year's HOBY seminar will be in June at John Carroll University, the exact dates will be determined. One sophomore will be chosen to represent Perry High School at the HOBY seminar next summer. Applications are available in the school counseling office. The deadline for returning applications is Friday, November 21st. Interviews will be conducted on Monday, November 24th.

The Ohio Guaranteed Admission Program recognizes the academic excellence of Ohio’s top high school students by ensuring automatic admission to the state’s public universities for those who graduate in the top 5% or 10% of their class.
Key Points:
-
Eligible students are guaranteed admission to any Ohio public university.
-
Some private colleges in Ohio also participate in the program voluntarily.
-
Students must still complete the standard college application process and meet any deadlines or major-specific requirements.
-
The program applies to college admission, not to admission into specific majors or programs of study.
Families can learn more and view a list of participating institutions at the Ohio Department of Higher Education’s OGA webpage.
