College Credit Plus

The College Credit Plus provides students with an opportunity to take classes at eligible post-secondary institutions. The purpose of this program is to promote rigorous academic pursuits and to provide a wider variety of options for high school students.

Please be advised that, per section 3365.035 of the Ohio Revised Code, "The subject matter of a course enrolled in under the college credit plus program may include mature subject matter or materials, including those of a graphic, explicit, violent, or sexual nature, that will not be modified based upon college credit plus enrollee participation regardless of where course instruction occurs.”

    • Expanded curriculum offerings.
    • Study in more depth those areas of special interest or need.
    • Earn college credits while still in high school.
    • Financial support for taking college courses while still in high school.
    • Experience college level work and life prior to making final decisions about whether and/or where to attend college.
    • Should a student fail to complete a CCP course taken for credit (formal "class drop" process, nonattendance reasons, course failure, etc.) any and all financial obligations assumed by the Board will default to the students and their parents.  This includes tuition, books, materials, and fees.
    • CCP classes withdrawn from or failed will receive a failing grade on the high school and college/university transcripts and will be computed into the high school and college/university GPA.
    • Perry High School may withhold grades and credits received for high school courses taken until reimbursement has been made.
    • Failing a course will impact future CCP Program eligibility.
    • The amount of work, pace, and rigor of content in college/university courses may be much greater than high school courses.
    • Increased student responsibility for learning because of less instructional guidance.
    • Reduced opportunities to participate in high school co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.
    • Potential loss of after-school employment opportunities.
    • Possible effect on grade point average and class standing.
    • Possible delay of graduation.
    • Increased time for travel and study.
    • Poor performance may affect future college/university admissions and financial aid.
    • CCP course content is presented on an adult level and class discussions require a mature understanding of divergent viewpoints and the ability to think critically on controversial issues.
      • Disclaimer: The subject matter of a course enrolled in under the college credit plus program may include mature subject matter or materials, including those of a graphic, explicit, violent, or sexual nature, that will not be modified based upon college credit plus enrollee participation regardless of where course instruction occurs.
    • For courses taken on campus, students will be intermingled with students of varying ages and maturity levels.
  • ATTEND A MEETING
All students and their parents interested in CCP should attend the meeting on January 15th, 2025 at 6pm in the Goodwin Theatre. Intent to participate forms will be distributed and due on April 1, 2025.

    APPLY
After submitting the Letter of Intent to Participate form, students apply to the college(s) they wish to take CCP classes through. Each student must complete an online CCP application for each college and let the Guidance Department know so a transcript can be sent.

    TEST
Students must complete an assessment exam (ACT, AccuPlacer, etc.). Scores must indicate college readiness in at least one subject area. Students make arrangements with the college to complete testing if they do not already have a qualifying test score. College may have additional admission criteria.

    REGISTER
If the student is accepted to the college, they must meet with their PHS counselor to discuss course choices and also meet with the college advisor to register for CCP classes. It is the student's responsibility to make sure they are getting into classes if they plan to take them on college campus.

    TEXTBOOKS
CCP course textbooks are paid for by Perry Local Schools and must be returned to the college at the end of each semester's exam week. Failure to return textbooks may result in the student being charged for each textbook.

  • Financial obligation to students and parents for incomplete credit (i.e. missing the formal drop deadline, non-attendance reasons, or course failure).
NOTE: Subject to change after publishing the PHS Course Guide. Students should notify their school counselor in a timely manner if interested in registering for CCP courses. Estimates above are based on 2022-23 local CCP information.

  • Potential CCP Courses
Courses are subject to change based on student request and instructor availability.

If a Perry High School student receives a failing grade at the end of a College Credit Plus (CCP) course at any college or university or withdraws from or drops the college course per the drop-date guidelines established at the college/university where the course is being attempted, the Perry Local School District will bill the student/family for the cost of the course and cost(s) associated with textbooks.

  • The CCP law states the school district can pay up to 30 credits per school year with a maximum of 120 for the student’s total time in the program. The 30 credits is a combination of high school and college credits using the formula above. A student that chooses to go over 30 credits per school year will be financially responsible for the overage and will be charged the per credit rate of that college for the entire course that pushes the student over the credit limit.

  • Let your counselor know you are planning on taking CCP courses for next school year (includes summer).

Return a signed CCP Letter of Intent to the PHS Counseling office by April 1st.

You need to apply to each university you plan on taking CCP courses by the college’s deadline. You may need to apply to multiple CCP colleges for the same academic year depending on which classes you plan to take and where you plan to take them. You must notify your school counselor when you have applied to a CCP school so a transcript can be sent.

Make sure you meet the admission standards for the university that you apply. You will need to meet the college readiness standards with your ACT score or by completing the Accuplacer exam. You can plan with the university to take the Accuplacer placement exam.

Taking CCP courses at PHS: For students taking courses at Perry High School, courses will NOT be placed into their high school schedule in the same manner as other high school courses. You will have to follow steps 1-4 and register at the college/university for courses.

Taking CCP at a college campus: For students taking CCP courses on a college campus, students will arrange a time to meet with their school counselor at PHS and/or the university to complete the registration paperwork.

The academic calendar for your CCP courses is different from Perry’s calendar. Make sure you check your CCP calendar and attend your classes regularly. Failure to attend classes may result in you being withdrawn or fail the course due to lack of attendance and you will be charged for the course. Communicate any CCP concerns or questions with your professor, advisor, and school counselor.

Complete course registration form and return to PHS Counselor when registering for CCP classes.
