Makerspace

-
Our Makerspace is a dedicated, collaborative workspace within the high school where students can explore and engage in hands-on, creative, and often interdisciplinary projects.
Makerspace brings together equipment, education and resources that provide opportunities for individuals to learn, create, design and invent. The sharing of space and tools provides individuals with the opportunity to learn and create works that might not otherwise be accessible.
Makerspaces have gained popularity as they align with 21st-century skills and the need for students to be adaptable, creative, and technologically literate. They offer a dynamic and engaging learning environment that can help prepare students for future educational and career opportunities.

- AFTER SCHOOL: Tuesday and Thursday from 2:30-5:00pm
-
- Hands-On Learning: Makerspaces provide students with access to a wide range of tools, equipment, and materials they can use to build, experiment, and create physical and digital projects. This hands-on learning approach encourages practical application of knowledge.
- Interdisciplinary: Makerspaces often bring together various disciplines, including science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM), to promote cross-disciplinary collaboration and problem-solving.
- Inclusivity: Makerspaces aim to be inclusive and accessible to all students, regardless of their skill levels, backgrounds, or interests. They offer a space where students can learn at their own pace and explore their individual passions.
- Technology and Tools: Makerspaces are equipped with a variety of tools and technologies depending on the school's resources
- Project-Based Learning: Students engage in project-based learning, where they conceive, design, and build projects of their choosing. This approach emphasizes problem-solving and critical thinking.
- Teacher and Mentor Support: Makerspaces often have teachers or mentors available to guide and assist students with their projects. These mentors can help students develop their ideas, troubleshoot technical issues, and learn new skills.
- Creativity and Innovation: Makerspaces encourage students to think outside the box, be innovative, and take risks in their projects. This fosters an environment where students can test their ideas and learn from their failures.
- Community and Collaboration: Makerspaces often promote a sense of community and collaboration among students. They can work individually or in teams on projects, share knowledge, and learn from each other.
- Entrepreneurship: Some makerspaces go beyond project-based learning and encourage entrepreneurial activities. Students may have the opportunity to prototype and test ideas that could eventually become marketable products or services.
